Kumite events were one of the most popular events on both days of the 2025 tournament. Returning in 2026, the NYC Karatedō International Championship offers kumite on both days of the tournament.

October 24th, 2026 [Saturday Afternoon]
- Adults - Men
- Adults - Women
October 25th, 2026 [Sunday]
- Youth Kumite (ages 8 to 11)
- Teen Kumite (ages 12+)
The rule-set will follow a point-fighting format, but take into account traditional concepts and the spirit and essence of authentic karatedō, while still providing an opportunity for competition.
One of the key differences in kumite events at the NYC Karatedō International Championship is the focus on safety. Safety gear is required in all divisions, and while it varies depending on the division, headgear is required in all events.
